Introductory letter

Dear Sian,

This week has flown by... and it is now Tuesday - I have got school sports day in a little while - thought I ought to do my next entry on the blog but the system is down. So I write this in preparation and send via e-mail.

I noted your comment on making many pieces - spheres - with the feet grouped and arranged in different ways
I have spent all this time making variations on the theme.
By which i mean they are different types of organism.

I will put up images of the types.
They are different sizes, shapes...I have given them names to help you communicate your comments about them.

Ferro (like the chocolate)- The largest is about 11cm - made of thick fishing line with red dots of scoobydoo as feet
Tiny - The smallest is 3.5 cm and made of invisible sewing thread with loopy feet
Cuppa coke - A cup one filled with strips/ribbons of coca cola can - flesh filling the cup
Springs - A black and red one which is made from sprung fishing line - the curly one with the metal spikes
Mine - A white one which looks like some sort of floating mine with red stitching and spikes
Loopy - A pale pink one with fine, simple fishing line loops of thread as tentacles
Awkward - A medium sized white one made with invisible quilters thread with beaded red and silver tentacles and spines
Spaced out - A plain one which demonstrates the possibility to space dye the fishing line after felting
Red dwarf - plain rich red one which also demonstrates the ability to dye it after felting, without destroying the shape, although some shrinkage may occur.

Question:- do you think it would be better for me to concentrate on one of these creatures and make many of them in different sizes, and colours or should I keep going with them all ?

I need to look at how to build them up as a colony.

I give one arrangement where I have just placed the pieces on or next to each other. It really does look like some kind of chemistry model of atoms.

I am sure the pieces can be strung together and would look good if there were several of the same type together too. there are so many possibilities and not much time right now to make the pieces in order to try them out.

Perhaps I could do this virtually with the aid of the computer... I might have a go, but we are off to the Wahiba Sands (desert) and aim to cross it over the weekend. It is an exciting trip which we are doing with some friends who are leaving Oman very soon. It is at the expense of my work! Sorry.

Hope you get a chance to look at my work. But if not don't worry I will carry on - I feel comfortable with this.

Karin
