Omani Silver Embroidery

This image shows fine embroidery on a man's belt in Oman. The work is done with silver wire and is painstaking.

I am researching and learning the technique: it is very difficult, although my teacher Fatma, a young woman from the Batinah coast, is very patient and I am grateful to her.

I have moved on now and am working the technique through mountboard and utilising the sewing machine to punch holes as discussed in another blog entry. Mainly this entry is to show how beautiful the Omani workmanship is. And therefore what inspired me to study this art form.
