Deep sea echinoid - IMPORTANT IDEA COMES FROM THIS ONE

The felted ball of fishing line is dyed black and red and colourless is the colour of the raw line

The creature stands or walks on its long legs. The sphere sits off the ground. I wish you could see this one for real!

I have not added anything to the ball, I think this piece works well in its neat and tidy form with the simple spines coming out of the sphere at irregular angles and lengths. They have been threaded through the sphere and are beaded at their ends with melted hama beads. These are supposed to link to the suckers at the end of urchin feet (cf star fish)

I could add more stitching but I really think this piece is complete as it is.

THE IDEA
It is tempting to concentrate on this one and work up a series a kind of transition or evolution from this one to other things... what do you think of this idea Sian?

Here are some words that I might have swimming in my head to guide me towards variations and devlopments from the simple form.

Becoming more or less:-
Neat
Tidy
Rough
Smooth
Compact
Spread
Asymmetric
Hard
Soft
Regular
Bigger
Smaller
Twinned
Multiple - communal
Growing- warty
Delicate
Chunky

I am so glad that even from the flat photo image you seem to find this an interesting idea
